Speaker 1:

Here we are what to do when you don't know what to post on social media. Here are five tips. Now we all struggle with this. Even when you're consistently posting and you're in a rhythm, you're going to have days when you know you need to post but you just nothing's coming out your brain. You don't know what to post. You just don't know what to say or do. Here are five things you can do to still create content.

Speaker 1:

One go back through your old posts and look at the comments and questions that people are making. What is your audience already asking? What are they commenting on? Are there any posts that have more comments than the others? And lean into whatever the topics are of those older posts that you've already posted and go back and answer some of those old questions. That's tip number one. Number two is go to YouTube and type in your content area. So if my area is academic branding or just branding, I'll go into YouTube, type in branding and the most popular videos have a subject matter and then you can do your own spin on that subject matter. So, whatever your area is, type it into YouTube, see what the most popular trending topics are right now and then do your own versions of those same topics.

Speaker 1:

Number three go to your bookshelf. Pick out a book that is in your niche. So you're an expert in this thing. I'm sure you have tons of books laying around the house. Open up one of those books and make one of the chapter titles or one of the subheadings in that book the topic of your next video, your next blog, your next text-based post on social media. Hey everyone, real quick.

Speaker 2:

I don't run any ads on this podcast, so I have to rely on word of mouth. If this podcast has helped you in any way, please share it with a friend and follow me, Dr Sheena Howard, on LinkedIn, where I give more free content on building your brand as an academic. If you tell me you came to my LinkedIn from the podcast, I'll make sure I accept your request is go to Google Trends.

Speaker 1:

It's free. Type in Google Trends in your browser and Google Trends will show you the things that people are searching for, the queries that people are searching for in your subject matter, in that particular subject matter. So now I have a couple of SEO certificates and you can use Google Trends for search engine optimization. And you know that's a longer video. But if you just start clicking around and typing in your topic and getting granular with the things that people are searching on Google, you'll be able to formulate some topics or at least know the things that people are searching for so that you can answer those questions and create content around those topics.

Speaker 1:

Number five particularly works if you've been consistently posting in the past, because you can go back through all of your old posts, find the three most popular posts that you've posted in, say, the last 90 days or even the last year, and you can either repost those or re-record those or just share them with a slightly different version, with some slight different words, but it's okay to repost old content that worked.

Speaker 1:

You know that content works, so you know it's gonna be good and people don't care about us as much as we think they do, so they have no idea that the thing that you posted six months ago is the same thing that you're posting now. They're not gonna remember. It's way too much volume of content out here on the internet. Those are five things you can do if you don't know what to post, if you're stuck, but you know you need to post and you just can't get the inspiration from your own noggin.
